Famous tennis player, Frederick Antony Wilding spent six months at Canterbury College and was an untraditional student who spent more hours on the tennis lawn or football field than in the lecture room. He was Wimbledon’s singles champion for four consecutive years (1910-13), and was an active member of the Australasian Davis Cup teams of 1907, 1909 and 1914. He was killed in battle during World War I at Ypres, 1915.
Situated on the ground floor of The Classic Villa, this corporate room has traditional polished timber floors, kauri doors, ornate plaster ceiling roses, thermostat controlled room temperature, luxury bedding, and mirrored wardrobes to capture the intimacy of yesteryear.
Step outside to views of the Christchurch Arts Centre, the Christchurch Tram and Christchurch’s famous pedestrian boulevard.
The Classic Villa is only steps away from the Christchurch Art Gallery, museum and botanic gardens.
